Who Is Jesus

Jesus is God

Try to imagine a Being who defies imagination. A Person without beginning or end, whose existence stretches on to infinity in both directions. A Being so vast that were you to break every law of physics and hurtle past countless galaxies to the edge of our expanding universe, He would already be there, waiting for you—no matter which direction you tried. What your trying to imagine, is God. And that Person has a name...Jesus.

Those who had come to know the teacher from Nazareth proclaimed Jesus like this, “who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness” (Philippians 2:6). The Creator God decided to become one of us. He wanted to provide us a way to know Him by becoming the way. Somehow, crammed into this fully human package was the infinite nature of God in all His awesome attributes. “He is the image of the invisible God…God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him” (Colossians 1:15,19). He was the full expression of the character of God, inseparable from the WORD of God.

Jesus’ very closest friend during those few years in the spotlight summed up his convictions about Jesus in three short phrases. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”(John 1:1). Jesus didn’t just teach about God, or try to show an example of God, or promise to lead someone to God. Jesus was God.

And the man from Galilee? What did He say about Himself? He spoke simply and clearly. “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). No mere human teacher has ever claimed such a thing—or would ever dare. But Jesus spoke them: “Look at me, and you can say you have seen God.”

He was a Ransom for Sin

We have all sinned: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)

Sin is an eternal debt to God: "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23)

Jesus paid our debt: "God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)

Our restoration: "In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3)

Why? God loves us: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that anyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9)

Not By Your Own Works

Faith alone in the finished work of Christ on the cross is the only true path to eternal life! "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
