Small Groups

Today’s culture is completely “high tech and low touch.” It celebrates and promotes individualism over community. Privacy and seclusion are valued over connection. However, God didn’t design us for shallow relationships and isolation. He created us for real friendship with Him and with others. We were made to belong and to be part of a community of Jesus followers—a group of people living life together, becoming whole and mature in Christ, and engaging God’s mission through our everyday life.
We have several small groups that meet on various nights of the week. Some of them meet in homes and others use the FPC facility. Although each group has its own personality, the groups tend to follow a similar meeting format focused around 4 elements:
-
Unplanned Hanging Out
Life is busy and often times we have not had the time to connect with people through casual conversation. Each small group encourages and allows time to simply connect, no script or agenda – just hanging out and enjoying our friends.
-
Discovering and Applying God’s Word
We all need a place to interact with and apply God’s Word to our everyday life. A small group provides you this opportunity through facilitated discussion of a section of the Bible, or applying the Bible as you consider an article, a book, a movie or clip, etc. The goal is not just learning facts and parroting Christian answers, but life change through believing and applying what God has said…together.
-
Sharing and Prayer
Do you have a group of friends with whom you can talk openly about significant life issues? A small group provides us with the opportunity to give and receive love, encouragement, support and wisdom – all related to the real issues that we face on a daily basis. The most natural response to this sharing is to invite God into these issues by praying for one another.
-
Considering Jesus’ Mission
A small group is a great place to discover and live out your part in Jesus’ mission to rescue a broken world. One group might choose to pray for their unbelieving friends or a project they support. Another group might choose to serve a special need in the community or world.
