Scouts
Scouting began at First Presbyterian with Troop #4 in 1927 with Dr. Charles Raymond as the first Scout Master. The program grew, changed its name to Troop #104, and now serves more than 100 boys and has produced more than 40 Eagle Scouts.
The scouting program at FPC has the Cub Scout Pack and Troop 104, along with Thunderbird District meetings and training every week.
Activities include camping by the Cub Scouts at Kissimmee River State Park, Lithia Springs, Fort Desoto, and Hardy Lake Camp. Both cubs and parents participate at district week long day camps, and day activities. The boys participate in Pinewood Derbies in the pack and district level.
Scouting’s birthday is celebrated with a Blue and Gold Banquet and is observed on Scout Sunday by presenting the Colors at church services. The Cubs hold fund-raisers and work on service projects, participate in Scouting for Food with collected food going to five food banks in the area. The Cubs also collect and donate goods to Goodwill and Talbot House.
Troop 104 joins the Cubs in some of the activities, like Scouting for Food and Scout Sunday. At times, the WEBELOS camp with the troop at District and Council Camp-o-rees. Some of the older scouts help the staff at day camp. The troop has monthly camp outs and service projects.
