STEPHEN MINISTRY
Stephen Ministers are lay men and women from FPC who have received over 50 hours of training in Christian care giving. Stephen Ministry emphasizes God as the cure giver with Stephen Ministers as care givers. It’s purpose is to provide Christian comfort and support in unsettling or challenging times when a person needs someone to listen to their feelings in a confidential, sensitive and non-judgmental way.
If you or someone you know might benefit from this Christian ministry of caring, or if you are interested in getting involved as a Stephen Minister, please call the church office or talk to one of the Stephen Leaders or Stephen Ministers.
Stephen Ministry was started 25 years ago by Dr. Kenneth Haugk, a pastor and clinical psychologist, to help his congregation in St. Louis, Missouri, extend its care giving ministry. It has since spread all over the world in over 80 denominations. It’s name Stephen comes from St. Stephen, the first lay person commissioned to provide care as found in Acts 6. Congregational Care is pleased to provide this ministry to First Presbyterian Church.
