Learn About Baptism

baptism

We believe that baptism is very significant since Jesus commanded us to continue to do it (Matthew 28:19). It designates when a person is recognized as a child of God under God’s promise of love and life.

Baptisms at the classic services of our church: If you desire to be baptized, or have one of your children baptized, please call the church office and speak to the pastor’s secretary. One of the ministers will get in touch with you and will meet with you to discuss the importance and meaning of baptism.

Baptisms will normally be held at the 10:30 a.m. service ideally on the third Sunday of the month. This, however, is not a hard and fast rule and can be adjusted depending on family situations. Baptisms are not normally conducted at the 8:15 a.m. service because the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is observed at that service and the time frame is limited.

Video photography of baptisms is permitted, but we ask that there be no flash photography during the service. This is a service of worship and we ask that it not be interrupted. The pastors will be more than happy to stand with the family for pictures following the worship service.

Baptism is a privilege and a responsibility of the church and a normal part of the ministry. Therefore, special monetary gifts should not be given to the ministers.

Celebrating baptism at the Vine service: If you desire to be baptized, or have one of your children baptized, please call the church office and speak to the pastor’s secretary. One of the ministers will get in touch with you and will meet with you to discuss the importance and meaning of baptism.

Baptisms during the worship service will be held once every quarter for both children and their families, as well as for adults making a profession of faith.  The baptismal font will be used and the modes of sprinkling or pouring will be offered.

Off site baptisms for adults making a profession of faith will be offered two times per year in conjunction with a special church event. The method will be by immersion and will probably be in a swimming pool.

A baby dedication service will be offered two times per year, separate from the baptismal service. We recognize the fact that not all families desire their children to be baptized as infants, but rather to be dedicated, and wait for baptism at a later date when they are older and make their own personal decision for Christ. Our church prefers baptism but will accommodate dedication services.
